Ronald D. Barker, age 81, of Coon Rapids passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Clio Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com
Ronald was born on February 22, 1938 in Wayne County, Iowa, and the son of Ross and Margaret (Waddle) Barker. He grew up in Clio, IA, and graduated from Allerton High School in 1956. He worked for the Rock Island Rail Road until he went to college at Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo where he earned degrees in criminal investigation and animal husbandry. He worked as a deputy sheriff in Blackhawk County until moving to Coon Rapids in 1968 to work for the Garst Company. He was married to Rosetta Irene Akes on July 5, 1957 at the Clio Methodist Church. Ron enjoyed playing horseshoes, feeding the buffalo, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Ron is survived by a daughter Rebecca Bradt (Darrel) of Mexico, MO; a son Robert Barker of Coon Rapids; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother Gordon Barker (Phyllis) of Osceola, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Ross and Margaret Barker; his mother and father-in-law Harley and Edna Akes; his brother James Barker (Phyllis); his sister Geneva Small (Tom); two sons: Ricky and Randy Barker; and his wife Rosetta Irene Barker 2017.
