Romayne Dean Blackley

Romayne Dean Blackley, age 79, of Glidden, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, July 21, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Fr. Andrew Hoffman as celebrant assisted by Deacon Gary Schon. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 3:30 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 P.M. Lector for the Mass will be Jerry Mathine. Gift Bearers will be Matt and Megan Blackley. Casket bearers will be Bob Johnson, Roy Janssen, Dave McNamara, Tim Tuel, Terry Dickinson, and Cody Wenck. Burial will be in the Dillavou Cemetery north of Ralston with military honors conducted by the Glidden American Legion. Born on November 20, 1934 at Ralston, Iowa, he was the son of Howard and Dorothy (Jordan) Blackley. He attended school through the 8th grade in Ralston and then went to high school in Glidden and graduated in 1952. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served three years in California, Japan, and North Carolina. Romayne was married to Deanna Zacker on June 21, 1958 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll by Fr. Pacus. The couple made their home in home in Ralston and moved to Glidden in 1974. Romayne worked for the Farmer’s Coop in Ralston for 15 years and then in worked for Farmland Foods in Carroll for 30 years retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden and the Merle Hay Post of the American Legion of Glidden. Romayne is survived by three sons: David Blackley and his wife Peg of Atlanta, Georgia, Jeff Blackley and his wife Jan of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Mike Blackley and his wife Monica of Sioux City, Iowa; a niece Patty Simons of Boone, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Christina Blackley of Boulder, Colorado, Jordan Blackley of Atlanta, Georgia, Derrick,Crystal, and Grant Blackley all of Mason City, Iowa, and Matt and Megan Blackley botrh of Sioux City, Iowa; two great grandchildren: Sylar and Callum; a sister-in-law Ann Zacker of Carroll; and several nieces and nephews. Romayne was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Deanna in 2001.
