Roger Allan Nailor, age 57, of Scranton, Iowa passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa following a brief illness.
Roger was born May 10, 1950 in Sioux City, Iowa to George and Esther (Kerr) Nailor. He spent his childhood days there and graduated from Central High School in 1968. It was in Sioux City that Roger met Cheryl Hoyt, and they married March 16, 1974 in Cheryl’s hometown of Scranton. Roger went on to attend Iowa State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and Public Service Administration in 1978.
Roger and Cheryl settled on the Hoyt family farm in Scranton where they raised their three children. Roger served many different roles in the Scranton community. He has been employed at People’s Trust and Savings Bank for 24 years, where he served as Vice President and Market President for the Scranton office. He was a member of the Iowa Banker’s Association, Treasurer of the Greene County Foundation, served on the Scranton Betterment Committee, Scranton Telephone Board, was a former school board member, involved in Greene County 4-H, a long-time active member of the Scranton United Methodist Church, and was currently attending the Pleasant Ridge Community Church.
While his career and community organizations were important to him, Roger was most proud of his family. He thought the world of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He took great pride in raising beautiful orchids, collecting coins and antique vases. Roger was a fanatic when it came to Iowa State athletics. He enjoyed attending Cyclone sporting events.
Surviving are his wife Cheryl, of 34 years, of Scranton; his mother Esther Nailor of Sioux City; his mother and father-in-law Beverly and Glen Hoyt of Scranton; a daughter Suzette Nailor of Forest City; a son Scott Nailor of Berkley, California; a son Will Nailor and his wife Kati, of Indianola; a daughter Cara Reedy and her husband Jason of Scranton; a son Seth Nailor of West Des Moines; four grandchildren: Cooper and Maggie Nailor and Sadie and Violet Reedy; a sister Sandra Watkins and her husband Ken of South Sioux City, Nebraska; a brother-in-law Dennis Hoyt and his wife Connie of Quincy, Illinois; a sister-in-law Linda Lindeen and her husband Tim of Dayton, Minnesota; a brother-in-law Gary Hoyt and his wife Melanie of Cedar Rapids; a brother-in-law David Hoyt and his wife Rosemary of Jefferson; a sister-in-law Nancy Anderson and her husband Kelly of Huxley; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many dear friends. Roger was preceded in death by his father, and two sisters Phyllis Brown and Nancy Hendrickson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Pleasant Ridge Community Church, Glidden, Iowa. Visitation will be held Sunday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 3-7 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Kim Bates, Steve Kerber, Dave Hoyt, Kelly Anderson, Tim Lindeen, and Dennis Hoyt. Honorary casket bearers will be Gary Brown, Ken Watkins, and Dave Hendrickson. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.
