Roger was born on September 25, 1950 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa to Lester and Lorna (Rose) Knute. He was baptized and later confirmed on March 22, 1964 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden. He attended Glidden-Ralston Community Schools graduating with the Class of 1968. During high school, Roger was active in baseball, basketball, and indoor track where he still holds the State record for the 880 ran in 1968. He attended Iowa Lakes Community College. On April 1, 1972 he was united in marriage to Kristine Prescott at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. Roger and Kris were blessed with three children: Jen, Jill, and Nick. Roger worked many years in farm and ag sales, and was a district sales rep for Ronnocco Coffee. His greatest enjoyment of his work career came after he retired, when he purchased a semi and operated RK Trucking- working for Landus Co-op and Windstar. He loved the fall farm work he did for local farmers- including the Walkup, Reever, and Schon family farms.
Roger was an avid Cyclone basketball and football fan. He loved hosting and entertaining friends and family at tailgates or in his home, where grilling his famous steak sandwiches became the most popular request. His special mashed potato recipe was even added by Speed to the Cookie’s Seasoning Cookbook.
Roger loved spending time with family. Their annual family vacations were a highlight. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities and events and you could see his pride for each one of them in his smile as he shared their stories and accomplishments.
Roger found joy in helping and doing for others. He was always positive, and believed there was always an answer- if nothing else worked, he knew duct tape was the solution to everything.
Roger is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kris Knute of Glidden; his children, Jen (Chris) Wallace of Glidden and Nick (Sarah) Knute of Adel, Iowa; five grandchildren: Jackson Greteman of Ankeny, Iowa, Gretchen Wallace and Colby Wallace both of Glidden, Millie Knute and Bowie Knute both of Adel; sisters: Diane Krogh of Carroll and Karla (Mark) Stokes of Grimes, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Paul Rosenau of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Frank Prescott of Carroll, David (Brenda) Prescott of Glidden, and Todd (Pam) Prescott of Ankeny; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Jill Knute, his parents, and his sister Sue Rosenau.
