Rodney Dale Dreesman, age 53, of Carroll passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 in Carroll. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carroll with the Rev. Cindy Johnson and the Rev. Vic Johnson officiating. Organist for the service will be Jan Potthoff. Casket bearers will be members of the Carroll Water Rescue Volunteer Team. Friends may call at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will resume at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Friday until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Rod’s name for a later designation. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Rod’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on June 18, 1963 in Waverly, IA, he was the son of Eugene and Betty (Garbes) Dreesman. He grew up in Clarksville, IA, and graduated from Clarksville High School in 1981 where he played football, wrestled, and ran track. During high school, Rod’s family owned Dreesman’s Café and Lounge in Plainfield, IA, where he and his siblings worked, became well known in the community, and learned “the gift of gab” from his Dad. Following high school Rodney went into business with his father and owned and operated Steamatic Carpet Cleaning in the Waterloo – Waverly area. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Lisa Litterer, on July 7, 1984 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville. Rod and Lisa lived in Waverly until moving to Carroll in 1990 where he worked for Farner – Hewitt Distributing and Lisa worked as the librarian for Carroll Middle School. Rod also worked at Amerigas and Paul and Wayne’s. On April 6, 1994, Steven, his absolute pride and joy was born, and he found no greater joy than being his dad and a second dad to many of Steven’s friends. Along with his work, Rod attended DMACC in Carroll and earned a degree in Industrial Electro-Magnetic Technology with an emphasis in Wind Turbine Repair. Following college he worked for Siemens in wind turbine repair. Rod loved the thrill of his job and enjoyed being up working on the windmills. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carroll where he was the Property Team Chair and filled many positions. Rod was currently employed by Farner - Bocken as a driver. He was a PADI certified scuba diver working on his Master Diver Certificate and was very active with the Carroll Underwater Search and Rescue Team. In the winter months, he could be found in the Carroll Rec. Center pool, introducing the joys of scuba diving to anyone who wanted to learn. Rod was an adventurer at heart and enjoyed riding motorcycles and bicycles, running, scuba diving, flying his ultralight, hunting, boating, water skiing, camping, traveling with his family, and being outdoors. Rod will be remembered for his mischievous smile, his distinct laugh, his willingness to help anyone with anything, and most of all, his absolute love for his family and friends. Rod is survived by his wife, Lisa of Carroll; his son, Steven Dreesman of Carroll and currently attending the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls; his parents: Eugene and Betty Dreesman of Clarksville; his mother and father-in-law: Richard and Ida Litterer of Clarksville; a sister Kim Lodge (Brock) of Clarksville; two brothers: Rick Dreesman (Julie) of Kansas City, MO, and Todd Dreesman (Marsha) of Clarksville; three brothers-in-law: Kevin Litterer (Beth) of Lake View, Chris Litterer of Clarksville, and Eric Litterer (Tammy) of Clarksville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Rod was preceded in death by his grandparents.
