Robert Alan Wenck

August 4, 1949 — March 15, 2023

Robert Alan Wenck, age 74, of Glidden, IA, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at his home in Glidden.

Per Robert's wishes, no services will be held and he will be interred in his wife’s family plot at Meetinghouse Cemetery in Marlborough, NH.

Robert was born in Carroll, IA to Helen “Honey” (Cunningham) and Louis Wenck, the third of four children on August 4, 1949.  Robert attended Carroll Public School until the seventh grade and then eighth grade at St. Joseph’s, and began high school in Stockton, CA, graduating in 1967 when he returned to Iowa to complete his secondary education.  He found his passion working with troubled inner city kids and received his master’s degree in Education and Marriage & Family Therapy.  After moving to New Orleans, LA, he was called upon to work with adolescent children who came from a traumatic home life. He soon became the director of the Adolescent Forensic Psychology Chemical Dependency Unity at New Orleans General Hospital. It was in New Orleans that he met and married his wife Gail (Knight) Wenck and helped raise her two children from a previous marriage.  They left New Orleans in 2005 during Hurricane Katrina.  The family traveled to and from New Hampshire and finally settled again in Iowa. Robert is fondly remembered by close friends and his patients as the “Mellow Flower Child” of the 60’s.

He is survived by his wife Gail of Glidden; her two children: Jan Perrien (Jeff) of Odebolt and Boss Jenkins of Rippey, IA; and two sons: Tom and John Wenck both of Des Moines; a brother Jerry (Linda) Wenck of Rio Vista, CA,  a brother Terry (Judi)  Wenck of Texas; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their children.

Robert is preceded in death by his loving parents; his sister Diane Eckard; and a grandson Noah.
