Robert Johnson

     Robert Wendell Johnson, age 95, of Carroll passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.      Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Audubon with Pastor Doug Opp officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church from 10 – 11 A.M. on Monday until the time of service and a luncheon will held following the service.  Burial will be held at Ft. Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis at a later date.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Bob’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com       Born on June 25, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN, he was the son of John Albert and Marie (Hedberg) Johnson.  He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1940.  He enlisted in the US Navy and served four years of active duty during WW II in the Naval Flight Training Program.  With this program, he attended the University of Iowa and St. Olaf College.  He was a Navy fighter pilot and flew many missions off of aircraft carriers in the Pacific.  Bob served 25 years in the Navy Reserves following his active duty.  He worked for United States Ceramic Tile and Marble.  He was married to Jeanne Margaret Close on February 23, 1946.  The couple made their home in Minneapolis, MN and to this union were born three children Mary, William, and Paul.  Jeanne passed away in 1980 and Bob continued living in Minnetonka until he retired and moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1984.  In Tucson, Bob met his companion Ardys Albertsen in 1995 who had also lost her husband.   Bob continued to travel between Tucson and his home in Minnetonka for several years.   He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman.  He enjoyed swimming, walking, fishing, going to the Rec Center, biking, and spending time with family and friends.      Bob is survived by his children Mary Brown (Thomas) of Littleton, CO, and Paul Johnson (Naomi) of Urbandale, IA; his special friend Ardys Albertsen of Carroll and formerly of Audubon; four grandchildren: Dr. William Sukov (Karla) of Rochester, MN, Anthony Johnson (Heather) of Des Moines, and twins Hannah Robinson (Chaz) of Des Moines and Erica Johnson of Des Moines; four great grandchildren: Theo, Ivan, Kai, and Lucy; Ardys’ family; and several nieces and nephews.       Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his son William Robert Johnson in 1953; his wife Jeanne 1980; two brothers: Donald Johnson and Le Roy Johnson; and a sister Dorothy Herber.
