He grew up on the farm and attended school in Dedham. He attended his first day of eighth grade then quit school to help on the family farm. Bob worked with his Dad and local farmers until he was fifteen then went to work for the Garst Company. His career spanned fifty-five plus years with the Garst’s. He began working with cattle and eventually became manager of the feed mill operations. He also planted and maintained many game food plots for Steve throughout the years. He was married to Patricia Hupp on November 17, 1959. The couple made their home on the Garst farm east of Coon Rapids where they raised their family. Bob purchased his current acreage west of Coon Rapids in the Mid 90’s. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening and anything else that involved the outdoors. During the summer he took pride in his weed free garden and giving away what he worked so hard to grow. Bob cherished his daily “deer run” drive around the countryside. Chances were strong that if you went to visit and he wasn’t outside, you would find him in his shack. He loved his acreage and spent a lot of time after retirement in his shack. He loved having his family come to visit especially his grandchildren. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Dorothy, grandson, Jeffrey, two brothers, Jerald and Kenneth, and two sisters Loraine and Diana. Bob is survived by three sons: Robert Hofbauer Jr. (Kathy England) of Coon Rapids, Joe Hofbauer of Coon Rapids, Kenneth Hofbauer (Tina Scully) of Berwick; two daughters: Jackie Hofbauer of Gobles, MI, and Julie Nielson (Ken Buelt) of Coon Rapids; fourteen grandchildren including Chris, Cindy, Matthew, Robert, Jason, Jenna, Annika, Nick, Cassie, Kaylee, Kelsie, Michael, Jessica, and Jacob; seventeen great grandchildren; four sisters: Stella Weber (Dick) of Glidden, Sally Johnston (Dave) of Des Moines, Sandra Forke (Lynn) of Carroll, and Rosemary (Vic) Sapp of Glidden; brother John Hofbauer (Sandy) of Coon Rapids; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
