Robert "Bob" Himes, 81, died Friday, June 22, 2012, after a battle with health issues at the Manning General Hospital in Manning, IA. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll, with visitation one hour prior and refreshments and fellowship following the service. Interment will be at a later date in the Harrison Cemetery at Swea City, Iowa. Bob was born January 21, 1931, in Marshalltown, IA to Robert and Luella (Hunt) Himes. He grew up in Liscomb, IA and graduated from Liscomb High School in 1949, Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in 1957 with a BA Degree, and Adam State College, Alamosa, Colorado in 1963 with a Master's Degree in Education. Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, proud to serve his country as did his three brothers in World War II. Bob met Cheryle Torine while they were teaching in Traer, IA. They married December 28, 1958. Bob's career in Education took them to Los Alamos, New Mexico; Waukon, IA; A.E.A. out of Decorah; Indianola, IA; and finishing his career at the A.E.A. in Cylinder, IA. Upon his retirement he continued with educational studies for individuals over the age of 55 "The Third Age College" in Spencer, Des Moines and Manning. Bob was an avid reader of history and loved Jazz music. Memories are left for wife Cheryle Himes Manning, IA; daughter Lorine (Scott) Linde of Westside, IA and their family Jamie Linde West Des Moines and Josh and Jenny Linde and Olivia of Manning, IA; son Paul (Katherine) Himes of Audubon, IA and their family Justin Himes of Ames, IA, and Alyx, Ryan, and Jamie Birmingham of Ankeny, IA; brother-in-law Larry (Darlene) Torine; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in many places. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers James, Albert, and Warren. The following organizations were closest to Bob's heart: Orchard Place, Des Moines, Ia. Relay for Life, Mayo Cancer Research, and your local library.
