Robert E. Frank, age 89, of Carroll passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at St. John Paul II Parish - St. Lawrence Church with Fr. Timothy Schott as Celebrant. Lectors for the Mass will be David Meyers and Erin Taylor. Music for the Mass will be by Kate Cuddy, Kathleen Macke and the St. Lawrence Choir. Eucharistic Minister will be David Meyers. Gift Bearers will be Christine Rizzo, Heather Frank, Olivia Frank, and Allison Lucht. Casket bearers will be Sean Frank, Marc Rizzo, Nathan Rizzo, Scott Frank, Mark O'Leary, and Gene Weitl. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home after 4:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a Rosary at 5:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the Church at 9:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of Mass. Robert Eugene Frank was born on September 19, 1929 in Carroll, IA, and was the son of Joseph P. and Susan P. (Meyers) Frank.
Bob as he was known to most grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1948. Following high school he attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and St. Regis College in Colorado. He returned to Carroll to help his father with their business Joe P. Frank and Son Plumbing and Heating. Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Carroll and continued in the family business. Bob was married to Velma Stella Chighizola on June 16, 1953 at Corpus Christi Cathedral in Corpus Christi, Texas. To this union were born three children David Joseph, Dorothy Ann, and Kay Elisabeth. Bob and Velma raised their family in their house on Main Street in Carroll and he owned and operated Joseph P. Frank and Son Plumbing and Heating with his son David. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and he served on the Carroll Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was also a member of the Carroll American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, St. Lawrence Men's Club, and the Carroll Gun Club. Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting. He and Velma spent many winters in various southern states over the years.
Bob is survived by his wife Velma of 65 years of Carroll; his children and their families: David Frank (Linda) of Carroll, Ann Donovan (L.T.) of St. Paul, MN, and Kay Frank (Robert Nicholas Jr.) of Syracuse, NY; seven grandchildren: Sean Frank of Carroll, Scott Frank (Heather) of Urbandale, Mark Rizzo (Christine) of Charlotte, NC, Nathan Rizzo of Clearwater, FL, Erin Taylor (Jeremiah) of Costa Mesa, CA, Danielle Mevec of Syracuse, NY, and Joseph Mevec of Syracuse, NY; three great-grandchildren: Olivia, Andersen, and Paisley Frank; his sister Sr. Mary Rose Frank of Culiacan City, Mexico; a brother-in-law Steven Wagner of Miami, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Susie Frank, his mother and father-in-law Joseph and Felice Chighizola; his sister Louise Buck, and a brother in infancy.
