Robert "Bob" Schon

Robert Raymond Schon, age 78, of Carroll died unexpectedly on January 6, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Monday Jan 11, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey. Concelebrating the Mass will be Father Tim Johnson and Father Randy Schon, assisted by Deacon Gary Schon. Organist will be Barb Danner. Lector will be Kevin Schon. Gift Bearers will be Paula Schon and Sheri Schon. Mass servers will be Chris and Lee Schon and Eucharistic Minister will be Lori Schon. Casket bearers will be Brian Schon, Donald Schon , Dale Schon, Dan Schon, Dave Schon and Duane Schon. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30PM Sunday where there will be a Rosary at 3PM and a Christian Wake Service at 7PM. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery at Willey, Iowa. He was born on March 24, 1931 at Willey, Iowa and was the son of William Sr. and Anna (Mersman) Schon. He was married to Harriet Harden on September 5, 1963 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll with Father Ries as celebrant. Following his marriage he farmed for a short time raising hogs and for many years he has been a Watkins Salesman. The Schon family were well know in this area as their Pleasant Valley Polka Band played for many celebrations, including Polka days, weddings, anniversaries and birthday parties. Bob has played the piano and push button accordion since childhood. In his spare time he enjoyed listening to old time music. One of his greatest passions in life was visiting with his family and friends. As a young boy he grew up in Willey Iowa and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and attended St. Mary’s School. He later became a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. Surviving are his wife Harriet of Carroll; two sons: Terry and Troy both of Carroll; three brothers: William Schon Jr. and his wife Dorothy of Glidden, Leo Schon and his wife Rosie of Carroll, and Louis (Louie) Schon and his wife Dorothy of Glidden; and a sister-in-law Barbara Schon of Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law Marie Seargant and four brothers Norbert Schon, Andrew Schon and his wife Katherine, Joe Schon and his wife Dorothy and Silvarus (Sil) Schon.
