Robert "Bob" McDonald, 90, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 07, 2019 at Accura Health Care in Carroll.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Chaplain Angelo Luis of St. Anthony Hospital officiating.  Casket bearers will be members of the Carroll American Legion.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors by the Carroll American Legion.

Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday evening.  Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 – 10:45 A.M.  Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

Born February 23, 1929 in Vinton, Iowa, Bob was the son of Claude and Pearl McDonald. He attended schools in Vinton, Emmetsburg, and Carroll. Bob was an Army veteran, joining the service in 1946. He was a cornet player and supply sergeant for the 30th Army Band in Munich, Germany. Bob held the rank of Staff Sergeant until his discharge in 1949. He was called back into service in 1950, serving one year in Korea.

He married Harriet C. Hacker on March 29, 1952.  Four daughters were born of this union. In April 1952, Bob began employment with Iowa Electric Light and Power Company.  He worked for 32 years for the company until his retirement, serving as a welder and foreman.

Upon retirement, Bob assisted his wife in her flower shop, and enjoyed working with metal lathes. He particularly enjoyed designing and making miniature steam engines, metal detecting, and drives around Swan Lake. He acquired an interest in stained glass, and spent many hours making gifts for family and friends. Bob was known for crafting small stained glass four leaf clovers that he gave to those he met.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a Life Member of the Carroll County Historical Society.

Survivors include his four daughters: Kathy Pitt (Bill) of Knoxville, Iowa, Carol Whitehill (J.Tracy) of Sioux City, Iowa, Diane Humphrey (Roger) of Waukee, Iowa, and Becky McConnell (Rick) of Honolulu, Hawaii, three grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet, son-in-law Ken Kruse, and grandson, Kim Kruse.
