Robert “Bob” Albert Janssen, age 65, of Rural Dedham, Iowa, passed away at his home unexpectedly on Saturday, June 7, 2008.
Born on April 17, 1943 at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Gerhard and Lillian (Bojie) Janssen. Bob was a lifelong resident of Glidden where he attended school. He was married to Barb Possehn on February 2, 1962 at Carroll. He worked construction for several years before his 34 year farming career for Art and Luella Bayer. He then worked with his eldest son Terry with Janssen Construction. Bob was currently working at Northside Rec in Coon Rapids part time. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden. Bob enjoyed Bowling, Fishing, Playing Cards, Spending time with his family, and managing the Willey slow pitch team for several years in the 1970’s.
Surviving are his wife Barb of Rural Dedham; a son Terry Janssen of Mason City; a daughter Teresa Janssen of Dedham; a son Tony Janssen and his wife Joleen of Glidden; a son Timothy Janssen and his wife Tara of Bayard; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother Richard Janssen and his wife Masae of Herbert, North Carolina; a brother LeRoy Janssen and his wife Marion of Glidden; a sister Leona Owen and her husband Kenny of Glidden; a sister Ruby Reinhart and her husband Keith of Scranton; and a brother Virgil Janssen and his wife Peggy of Glidden; a sister-in-law Pat Hayes of Ft. Dodge; a brother-in-law Earl Possehn and his wife Rosemary of Ft. Dodge; a sister-in-law Marianne and her husband Doug Aden of Jolley, Iowa; a sister-in-law Sue Dettman and her husband Mickey of SacCity; a brother-in-law Paul Possehn and his wife Terri of Deep River, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother and father-in-law Earl and Irene Possehn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor Alan Miller officiating. Organist for the service will be Patti Patrick and vocalists will be Marilyn Winkel and Carol Haberl. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Scott Davis, Roy Janssen, Mitchell Dettman, Kurt Possehn, Johnny Toms, and Duane Owen. Honorary casket bearers will be Bob’s brothers and sisters and their spouses, Bob’s Grandchildren and great - grandchildren. Burial will be in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.
