Rick Weitl, age 60, of Scranton, Iowa, passed away at his home on Friday, October 7, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Scranton Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton where the family will greet friends from 5 – 7 P.M.. Pall bearers will be his grandchildren. Visitation will resume at the United Methodist Church in Scranton on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M..
Born on January 24, 1951 at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Frederick and Betty (Klocke) Weitl. He grew up in Carroll where he attended school. Following high school he worked in numerous packing plants in western and northwestern Iowa. He also did road construction for Rohlin Construction and he has worked for Scranton Manufacturing since 1995. He was married to Candace Kepple on February 2, 1996 at the Church of Christ in Bayard, Iowa by Rev. Bob Rogers. In his younger years Rick was an amateur boxer and boxed in the Iowa Golden Gloves. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Rick was affectionately known as Grandpa to many of the kids in Scranton.
Surviving are his wife Candace of Scranton; his children: Leah, Steven, Annette, Nathan, Sherry, Shawn, Bambi, Angie, and Jennifer; 25 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; five sisters: Sharon Perrien of Omaha, Nebraska; Debbie Schaefer (Melvin) of Omaha, Nebraska, Barb Hallinan (Merle) of Omaha, Nebraska, Lisa Drees of Omaha, Nebraska, and Robin Lawler (Tom) of Carroll; two brothers: Kevin Weitl of Carroll, Iowa; Kenny Weitl (Anya) of Alaska; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
