Richard D. “Dick” Watson, age 93, of Carroll passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Swan Place in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Organist for the service will be Nancy Davis. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5–7 P.M. on Tuesday evening. The casket will be moved to the First United Methodist Church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Dick’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on August 26, 1923 on his family’s farm near Grant, IA, he was the son on George and Nellie (Pierce) Watson. He lived on the farm near Grant until age 13 when his family moved to a farm near Centerville. Dick graduated from Centerville High School in 1940 and then attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business. While attending the U of I, Dick was a member of the Sigma Nu and Delta Sigma Pi fraternities. After college he moved to Atlantic, IA and worked for Globe Laboratories first as a salesman and later as a sales manager. He was married to Gloria Huenger on January 5, 1952 at Methodist Church in Atlantic. The couple lived in Atlantic for five years before moving to Ft. Worth, TX where he continued as a sales manager with Globe Laboratories. In 1960 Dick and Gloria moved to Carroll and he worked for McKesson Drug Company for 18 years and McPike Drug Company for 10 retiring in 1988. Dick was a member of the Iowa Pharmaceutical Association, the Iowa Drug Travelers and the Nebraska Drug Travelers. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Dick had also been a member of the Carroll Country Club and the Carroll Elks Lodge. Dick enjoyed golfing, following the Iowa Hawkeyes, playing cards, and spending time with his family and many good friends. Dick is survived by his wife Gloria of Carroll; a son Brad Watson and his wife Margaret of Dallas, TX, a daughter Virginia Cannon and her husband Rick of St. Petersburg, FL; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one sister, Georgia Shartner of Salem, OR; a sister-in-law Virginia Everett of Tallahassee, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; a son Greg; four brothers: Ronald, Maurice, Max, and Wayne, and six sisters: Helen Taylor, Dorothy Malone, Cleone Penwell, Mae Frazell, Joyce McConnelee and Joann Kenefick.
