Richard "Dick" Heman

Richard F. “Dick” Heman, age 74, of Carroll passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Carroll City Cemetery with Linda Schulte officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Dick’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on May 22, 1941 at Ft. Dodge, Iowa, he was the son of Richard P. and Dona (Henderson) Heman. Dick grew up in Ft. Dodge and his family moved to Omaha when he was a junior in high school. He graduated from Benson High School in 1959 and went to Iowa State University before attending Omaha University where he was enlisted in Air Force ROTC and he was also on the rifle team. While attending college he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers. Dick was married to Cheryl Christiansen on May 25, 1973 in Council Bluffs. The couple made their home in Sac City where Dick worked for McCorkle Construction Company. They moved to Rogers, Arkansas for three years with Dick’s job and then moved to the Carroll area in 1983. He worked as the general manager for Trausch Refrigeration. The Heman’s then owned and operated The Farmhouse Restaurant and Country Host Catering for 14 years. Dick then worked for JEO Consulting Group in Carroll for seven years before retiring in 2008. Dick was a private pilot and he enjoyed fishing, traveling, and jogging. Dick is survived by his wife Cheryl of Carroll; two daughters: Jennifer Heman-DeTray and Kimberly Boes and her husband Jeremy of Atlantic, IA; four grandchildren: Alexis, Celia, Lily, and Zachary; his father-in-law Leland Christiansen; two brothers-in-law: Robert Christiansen and his wife Laurie of Omaha, NE, and Jeff Christiansen and his wife Lynn of Council Bluffs. Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
