Richard Adkins

December 28, 1927 — January 5, 2011

Richard H. “Dick”Adkins, age 83, of Carroll passed away on Wednesday, January 05, 2011 at Regency Park Care Center in Carroll. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll where the family will greet friends from 5 – 7 P.M.. A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs. Born on December 28, 1927 at Council Bluffs, Iowa, he was the son of Dean and Hattie (Kadereit) Adkins. He grew up in Council Bluffs and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950. He served two years and was stationed in various locations. After the military he moved back to Council Bluffs. He was married to Ruthanne Campbell on November 25, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs. He worked for Union Pacific Rail Road, Armour & Company, and Goodyear Tire. The Adkins moved to Carroll in 1970 where he continued to work for Goodyear as territorial sales manager. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Dick was an avid fisherman, he enjoyed woodworking, sports, and he was a dedicated father and husband. Surviving are two sons: Richard D. Adkins of Omaha, Nebraska, and Ronald S. Adkins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter Jayne M. Coffman and her husband Doug of Wichita, Kansas; a grandson Adam Sullivan and his wife Stephanie of Whittemore, Iowa; three great grandchildren: Kinnick, Maddie, and Carter; brother Robert Adkins and his wife Betty of Council Bluffs; two sisters: Dorothy Levenhagen and her husband Donald of Fremont, Nebraska, and Carol McKinley of Council Bluffs; two brothers-in-law: Jerry Campbell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Robert Campbell and his wife Bonnie of Council Bluffs; and a sister-in-law Julienne Wilkinson of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruthanne in 2006 and a brother Leroy.
