Raymond Edward Sabus

Raymond Edward Sabus, age 69, of Carroll and formerly of the Scranton community died at his home in Carroll on December 28, 2008 following a lingering illness. He had farmed for several years north of Scranton and then worked at Pella for 8 years before retiring in 2004. Born on March 22, 1939 at Jefferson, Iowa, he was the son of Fred and Clara (Baumhover) Sabus. He was married to Linda Crawford on October 8, 1960 at Canon City, Colorado. Ray was a member of St. Columkille Catholic Church in Churdan and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Jefferson. As a young boy he attended schools in Glidden and graduated from Glidden High School in 1957. In his spare time enjoyed playing his saxophone and had played in the “Town and Country Band” of Churdan. During the winter months while in Arizona he played in several jam sessions. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, enjoying the out of doors, and watching TV sports. Surviving are his wife Linda of Carroll, five daughters: Jackie Vaughan and her husband Randy of Bayard, Pam Soyer and her husband Jeff of Glidden, Sherry Bluml of Glidden, Cindy Hatting and her husband Tony of Glidden, and Missy Sukovaty and her husband Gib of Scranton; seventeen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Mary Lou Wuebker of Jefferson, Gene Sabus and his wife Audie of Canon City, Colorado, Bob Sabus and his wife Marsha of Fallbrook, California, Tony Sabus and his wife Kathy of Boise, Idaho, Suzanne Reinard and her husband J. D. of Denver, Colorado, and Sharlene Cox and her husband John of Canon City, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Carol Johnston, a sister Phyllis Jorgensen, two brothers Don Sabus and Glenn Sabus, and an infant daughter Judith Sabus. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11AM on Friday January 2, 2009 at St. Columkille Catholic Church in Churdan with Father Dennis Sefeick as celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 PM Thursday where there will be a Rosary at 3PM followed by a Christian Wake Service at 7PM with Father John Gerald of Holy Spirit Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in the St. Patricks Cemetery in rural Greene County. Organist will be Mr. Richard Carey. Lector wil be a granddaughter Amber Larson. Ray’s five daughters Jackie, Pam, Sherry, Cindy and Missy will be gift bearers. Casket Bearers will be grandsons: Cory Vaughan, Brandon Vaughan, Tyler Vaughan, Tanner Samento,Nathan Soyer, Andrew Bluml, Michael Sellman, Zachary Sukovaty. Honorary casket bearers will be granddaughters: Amber Larson, Lacey Soyer, Christa Bluml, Trisha Langenfeld, Tasha Sellman Alicia Sukovaty,Amanda Sukovaty and Ramie Bluml.
