Raymond Lloyd Free, age 79, of Lanesboro passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Lanesboro with Rev. Lorinda Hoover officiating. Organist for the service will be Mary Ross and vocalists will be Sydney Butrous and Chelsey Snyder. Casket bearers will be Tom Weber, Jack Scanlan, Gregg Platt, Tony Ball, Dave Thielen, and Randy Blair. Honorary casket bearers will be Ray’s grandchildren, Jerry Ball, Don Pottroff, and Bill Higgins. Burial be in the Lanesboro Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for Ray’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on December 31, 1938 on his family’s farm near Jamaica, IA, he was the son of Francis “Barry” and Mary (Allen) Free. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Bayard High School in 1956. Ray farmed with his father and two brothers following high school. He was married to Florence Henrichs on November 24, 1962 at the United Methodist Church in Lanesboro by Rev. Viney. Ray and Florence made their home on the Henrichs family farm until moving to Marshalltown in 1965 where they farmed for two years. They moved back to the Glidden area and farmed for twenty eight years before moving to their current farm near Lanesboro. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lanesboro. Ray was instrumental in starting New Hope Village and served on the board of directors for many years, several as President. He was also a member of Farm Bureau holding several offices including President, the Glidden Jaycees, the Carroll County Fair Board and the Carroll County Pork Producers. Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, square dancing, and spending time with his family. Ray is survived by his wife of Florence of 55 years of Lanesobro; his children: daughter Teresa Snyder (Rick) of Lake City, son Arthur Free (Julie) of Glidden, and daughter Karen Sturm (Jerry) of Breda; ten grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two brothers: Francis Free (Sandy) of Perry and Allen Free (Linda) of Glidden; three brothers-in-law: Edward Henrichs of Williams, IA, Kenneth Henrichs (Anita) of Des Moines, and Wayne Henrichs (Wanda) of Nemaha, IA; and several nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents Barry and Mary Free; his mother and father in-law Clark and Mildred Henrichs; and a sister-in-law Zona Henrichs.
