Raymond Lee Toms, 89, of Scranton, died on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Private family services will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Hamilton of Grace Baptist Church in Glidden officiating. Born on June 24, 1926, in Lake City, Iowa, Ray was the son of Ira and Julie (Kelley) Toms. He grew up in the Glidden – Scranton area. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and served in the south Pacific during WW II. He was honorably discharged after 4 years of service and later re-enlisted in the United States Army. He was married to Nancy June Frazier on December 2, 1946 in Scranton. The couple moved to Buffalo, MO in 1948 and moved back to Scranton in 1950. Ray farmed and operated several cafes in the area. Ray was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Glidden. Ray is survived by four sons: Roger (Lisa) Toms of Blooming Prairie, MN, Mitchel “Mick” (Jeanette) Toms of Kearney, MO, Martin (Linda) Toms of Woodbine, IA, and Roy Dean Toms of Scranton; two daughters: Nanette (Kenny) Cheville of Scranton, and Nancy Toms (Alex Calderon) of Glidden; 13 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a brother Jim (Vicky) Toms of Lake View; a sister Jeanine (Wendall) Heuton of Carroll; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nancy, two brothers: Dewey and John, and eight sisters: Pearl Dorman, Ruth Alspach, Eva Toms, Clarabell Owen, Nellie Brock, Dorothy Jarvis, Nina Daiker, Ruby Richards, a son Daniel Toms, and a grandson Steve Toms.
