Rani was born July 29, 1971 in Carroll, a daughter of long-time local business owners, Paul and Jane Schaben. Rani graduated from Carroll High School in 1989 before continuing her education at Wayne State University in Wayne, Nebraska.
A co-owner of the family business enterprise in which she was active, Hot Spring Spas of Iowa and The Twin Cities, a business that started as Agri Bolt & Cabinet Co. in Carroll, Rani lived for the past three decades at her home in Clive.
Rani loved to travel the world and toured many countries including Australia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Grand Caymans’s and loved visiting Hawaii, and Florida. Her favorite place of all to visit was Denver, Colorado where she would enjoy spending time with her Aunt Jacqui and Uncle Frazier where she could relax in good company with a glass of wine and three of her favorite dogs. Rani loved attending family reunions, concerts, movies, and experiencing new restaurants especially Italian foods. One of her true passions was animals, and regular customers of the Hot Spring store in Clive would enjoy greetings from Rani’s Golden Retriever Sadie, who became a mascot for the business. Rani never bought any of the many dogs and cats that lived in her home. Rather, she took in rescue pets or adopted them from family and friends. During her illness Rani kept a great attitude and never indulged in self-pity as she fought cancer with bravery and more strength than it took to fight with three older brothers. Most of all, Rani Schaben is remembered as a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend to many. Rani’s favorite color was purple, we ask when you wear purple you think of her fondly.
Rani Schaben is survived by her parents, Paul and Jane Schaben, of Carroll; three brothers, Ryan Schaben of Eagan, Minnesota; Sean Schaben (Pamela Cavanaugh), of Carroll; Thad Schaben (Carmen), of Urbandale; Nephew Colton Schaben of Casa Grande, AZ; Nieces Ciara Jane Schaben of Kawaguichi, Japan; and Emma Schaben of Denver, CO along with many uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends.
Rani Schaben was preceded in death by Grandparents Lyle & Bernice Clary; Tony and Lucille Schaben.
