Randall Eugene Harlan, age 70, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the home of his daughter in Bettendorf, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Chaplain Peg Scheidt officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Friday evening. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Dr. Eric Paulsen, Robert Johns, Richard Johns, Nick Burns, Chris Peterson, and Doug Goetzinger. Honorary casket bearers will be John Peterson and Jason Walter. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on November 24, 1940 at Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of Lloyd and Dorothy (McKendrick) Harlan. He grew up in Des Moines and graduated from East High School in 1959. Following high school he worked for Colonial Bread Company until 1971 when he went to work for Hiland Potato Chip Company. He has been employed by the Farner Bocken Company since 1978 and retired in 2009. He was married to Patti Southard on May 14, 1999 in Omaha. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. In his spare time he enjoyed following the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Dallas Cowboys, spending time with his children and grandchildren, his dogs Pooh Bear and Sadie, and he loved working for Farner Bocken where he was known as “Daddy”. Surviving are his wife Patti of Carroll; a daughter Holly Harlan of Cleveland, Ohio; a son Randall Harlan Jr. of Des Moines, Iowa; a son David Harlan and his wife Ginger of Omaha; a son John Harlan and his wife Lisa of McKinney, Texas; a daughter Keri Walter and her husband Jason of Bettendorf, Iowa; his step children: Kylie Fink of Des Moines, Nathan Southard of Chicago, Rikki Mae Southard of St. Joseph, Missouri; his mother-in-law Mary Ann Johns of Carroll; a brother Richard Harlan of Connecticut; a sister-in-law Mary Harlan of Urbandale; two brothers-in-law: Robert Johns of Omaha, and Richard Johns Marshar of Council Bluffs; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Rodney Harlan, and a sister Penny Klatt.
