Paul was born on February 16, 1934 on his family farm south of Carroll. He was the son of Frank and Ann (Wanninger) Sailer. Paul grew up on the farm with his 5 other siblings. Paul served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. During that time, he served in South Korea. After serving in the military Paul returned to Iowa to start farming. He and Agatha Ocken were married on September 2, 1961 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia. Paul began his dream of farming on a farm outside of Schleswig, IA in 1961 and remained there until 1965. They then moved to Bayard from 1966-1968. In 1968 they moved to Bagley where they remained until they retired from farming. Along the way, they raised 5 children: Tom, Mike, Frank, Gary, and Nancy. Paul was known as a fun-loving man to all that knew him. He loved to socialize and enjoyed being around people and was always involved with his church. Paul worked extremely hard on the farm, but always had time at the end of the day to play ball in the yard with his children. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed attending sporting events and other activities for all his children through the years as they grew up. As his children grew up, he became a loving grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Paul is survived by four sons: Tom Sailer (Mary) of Ames, Mike Sailer (Shellie) of Lenexa, KS, Frank Sailer (Barb) of Manchester, IA, and Gary Sailer (Jill) of Overland Park, KS; a daughter Nancy Pardun (Mike) of Denison; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Loretta Bernholtz of Grimes and Lillian Stork of Atlantic; a brother-in-law Francis Ocken of Omaha, sister-in-law Charlotte Ocken of Omaha;and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
