Nyle Schelle, age 85, of Glidden passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Hawkeye Care Center in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church Glidden with Father Andrew Hoffmann as celebrant. Music will be by the St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church Choir with Mary Ross as organist and Mike Bolton as Soloist. Lector for the Mass will be Jerry Mathine. Casket bearers will be Jim Gaul, Lynn Stork, Nik McCallum, Todd Pettitt, Josie Espenhover, and Al Nepple. Burial will be in the St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 4:30 P.M. on Monday where there will be a Rosary at 5:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, where visitation will resume until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be left at the church or funeral home to be given to various local charities in Nyle’s name. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for Nyle’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com. Born on November 16, 1931 near Breda, Iowa, on his family farm, he was the son of Charles and Mary (Goecke) Schelle. Nyle grew up on the farm and attended school at St. Bernard School in Breda. Following school he farmed with his parents and was married on August 9, 1955 to Mary Schmid at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Nyle and Mary farmed near Earling. The couple then moved to a farm near Breda where they farmed until 1977 when they moved to Glidden. Nyle went to work at the Egg Plant in Glidden until it closed. He then went to work for a company in Sac City building machinery. During retirement, Nyle worked several seasonal jobs around the Glidden and Coon Rapids area. Nyle was a talented musician and enjoyed playing the accordion and organ by ear, and he played the organ at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church until 2016. Nyle and Mary enjoyed dancing, which took them to different states. They also entertained at local nursing homes. In his spare time, Nyle made thousands of rosaries for various missions. Nyle was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. Nyle is survived by his wife, Mary Schelle of Glidden; his two daughters: Jeanine LaBreck of Colton, SD and Laurie McCallum (Curt) of Cedar Falls; one son: Gerry Schelle of Glidden; two grandchildren: Brandie Davidson of Fort Worth, TX and Nik McCallum of Cedar Falls; a sister Lois Roets of Des Moines; a brother Ron Schelle (Pat) of Pfafftown, NC; and many nieces and nephews. Nyle was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Norma Kennebeck and Jean Thelen; three brothers: Merlin, Wilmer, and Wayne
