Norman Terry Winchester, age 79, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Born on July 16, 1929 at Rogers, Arkansas, he was the son of William Elbert and Helen Marie (Wight) Winchester. He graduated from Henderson High School in 1947. He was married to Norma Allensworth on July 29, 1949 at Henderson, Iowa. Norm worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company, KCIM Radio Station, and the Wilson Trailer Company before owning and operating Winchester Real Estate in Carroll. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carroll, Signet Lodge #264 of Carroll, the Carroll Jaycees, the Carroll Kiwanis Club, and the Methodist Men’s Club. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards, golfing, and spending time and traveling with his family.
Surviving are his wife Norma of Carroll; a son Gregory Alan Winchester and his wife Sandra of Ankeny, Iowa; a daughter Teri Happe of Ankeny, Iowa; five grandsons: Paul Winchester, Matt Winchester, Josh Happe and his wife Jen, Jason Happe and his wife Shelby, and Jake Happe; a brother Elbert Eugene Winchester of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a brother James Winchester and his wife Annie of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a sister-in-law Betty Raney and her husband Charles of Bella Vista, Arkansas; a sister-in-law Donna Loth and her husband Lee of Omaha, Nebraska; a brother-in-law Douglas Allensworth and his wife Carol of Red Oak, Iowa; and a brother-in-law Craig Allensworth and his wife Linda of Carson, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law Jim Happe, three sisters: Geneva Erickson, Eva Jane Wallace, and Josephine Kannell, and a brother-in-law Vance Allensworth.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, November 28, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Paul Winchester, Matt Winchester, Josh Happe, Jason Happe, Jake Happe, and Greg Winchester. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
