Norman Warnke

Norman Warnke, age 96, of Carroll, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Accura Healthcare of Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service.  Music for the service will be Mary Ross as organist and Marvin Toft as soloist.  Caskets bearers will be John Warnke, Todd Warnke, Shanna Warnke, Kelli Warnke, Kent McDonald, and Eugene Boell.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Norman’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com. Born on August 1, 1921, in Carroll, Norman was the son of John and Edith (Heim) Warnke.  He grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1939.  Norman farmed northeast of Carroll with his family.  He was married to Betty Trafford on December 14, 1944 at her parents’ home in Glidden.  Norman worked for Heider Manufacturing Company until his retirement in 1980.  Norman cared for his wife for twelve years in their home after her diagnosis with Alzheimer's disease.  Norman was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed fishing with grandchildren and woodworking.  He liked to reminisce about his days on the farm, especially about farming with draft horses before they had their first John Deere tractor.  He was a collector of John Deere memorabilia.  Norman read the newspaper every day, and kept up with current events.  He enjoyed watching professional football on television. Norman is survived by his daughter Judith McDonald of Overland Park, KS; his son John Warnke (Marta) of Carroll; six grandchildren: Todd Warnke (Susan) of Batavia, IL,  Kent McDonald (Nicki) of Hunting Beach, CA, Tammy Wyss (Steve) of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Tracy Finley of Panama City, FL, Shanna Warnke of Carroll, and Kelli Warnke of Glidden; 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty in 2012; sister Delores Mullins; and brothers: Kenneth and Lyle.
