Norman John Dentlinger Sr.

Norman John Dentlinger Sr., age 82, of Coon Rapids passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids with Fr. Andrew Hoffman and Fr. Daniel Siepker concelebrating. Friends may call at the Johnson and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids after 3:30 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 P.M. by Annunciation Parish. The casket will be moved to the Annunciation Church at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Music for the Mass will be by Faye Seidl as organist and soloist will be Kelli Dentlinger and the Annunciation Choir will sing. Lector for the Mass will be Amber Hinners. Gift Bearers will be: Nicole Dentlinger, Megan Dentlinger, Amy Hinners, Jennifer Schmitz, Brooke Gruhn, and Leah Dentlinger. Casket bearers will be: Tyler Dentlinger, Timothy Dentlinger, Zach Dentlinger, Michael Dentlinger, Chance Gruhn, Brandon Dentlinger, Amanda Mathis, and Alicia Dentlinger. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery near Dedham with military honors by the Coon Rapids American Legion. Born on June 7, 1932 north of Halbur, he was the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Drees) Dentlinger. He grew up near Halbur and attended St. Augustine Catholic School. Following school he worked for his father on the family farm. He was married to Katherine H. Irlbeck on August 18, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham by Fr. Henry Pick. The couple made their home southwest of Coon Rapids where they farmed on Katherine’s family farm until moving to their current farm in 1962. Norm was drafted into the United States Army in December of 1955 and served two years during the Korean War. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids and the Coon Rapids American Legion. Norm loved being outdoors especially working around the farm with his boys. He was active helping around the farm and riding his four wheeler until the time of his illness in early October of 2014. He cherished times spent with his family and he loved his grandchildren. Norman is survived by his wife Katherine of 61 years; two daughters: Susan Gruhn and her husband Mike of Manning and Peggy Hinners and her husband Scott of Arcadia; three sons: Daniel Dentlinger and his wife Vicki of Coon Rapids, Terry Dentlinger and his wife Shelly of Coon Rapids, and Steve Dentlinger and his wife Lori of Coon Rapids; twenty nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Sheila Dentlinger of Coon Rapids; two sisters-in-law: Rita Dentlinger of Manning and Mary Dentlinger of Audubon; a brother-in-law Edward Irlbeck Jr. and his wife Rose of Dedham; and two sisters-in-law: Angeline Gassman and her husband Joe of Lake City and Dorene Biederman of Council Bluffs; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Kathy, a son Norman Jr., five brothers: Wilbert, Ambrose, Alfonse, John, and Francis, and three sisters: Rita Ferneding, Marie Siepker, and Anita Dentlinger.
