Norma E. Hein, age 87, of rural Carroll, IA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Pastor William Weiss officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Rebecca Dose. Casket bearers will be Norma’s grandchildren and honorary casket bearers will be her great grandchildren. Burial will in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to St. Anthony Hospice or Immanuel Lutheran church and may be left at the funeral home or the church.
Born on July 6, 1926 at on her family’s farm east of Lidderdale, IA, she was the daughter of Daniel and Frieda (Harmening) Wenck. Her family moved into Lidderdale when she was four years old. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale. Norma attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Lidderdale and graduated from Carroll High School in 1944. After high school, she worked for Security Title and Investment as a secretary. She was married to Lyle Hein on May 1, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale by Pastor Rudolph Hermann. Lyle and Norma lived on the Hein family farm south of Lidderdale where they raised their five children. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale where she was very active in the choir, Sunday school, ladies aide, altar guild, and fellowship club. Norma enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, quilting, doing the Sunday Register word scramble, and she especially enjoyed playing games with her family.
Norma is survived by her husband Lyle of 64 years; three daughters: Renae Cook and her husband Don of Broken Arrow, OK, Rhoda Mergen and her husband Chris of Coppell, TX, and Rebecca Ware and her husband Robert of Ankeny, IA; two sons: Randy Hein of Carroll and Ross Hein and his wife Kim of Glidden; ten grandchildren: Joni Barnett and her husband Barry, Heidi Ross and her husband Daniel, Jessica Cook, Ryan and Courtney Mergen, Benjamin Ware, Adam Ware and his wife Markeyer, Rachael Ware, Justin Hein and his wife Stephanie, and Nicholas Hein and his special friend Dawn Scott; eleven great grandchildren: Brooklynn, Brenna, Markiest, Zaryna, Holden, Waylon, Kinlin, Danlan, Chandler, Chloe, and Carter; three sisters-in-law: Gloria Wenck of Lidderdale, Frieda Wenck of Lidderdale, and Arlette Hein of Colorado, a brother-in-law Junior Hein and his wife Donna of Glidden; and several nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Oliver, Russell, and Glen Wenck, and two sisters: Lois Winger and Carol Conner.
