Nellie Brock

Nellie G. Brock, age 90, of Carroll and formerly of Glidden passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the Carroll Health Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Pastor Rick Hamilton of Grace Baptist Church in Glidden officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. Casket bearers will be Joey Schieffer, Jet Jacobs, Rick Toms, and John R. Toms. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on August 10, 1921 at Bruce, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Ira and Julia (Kelley) Toms. She grew up in the Lake City, Lanesboro, Glidden area. She was married to Loyal Brock on October 19, 1940 at Rockwell City, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed near Lanesboro and later purchased a resort in Milaca, Minnesota. They moved back to the Glidden area in 1959 and Nellie worked for the Glidden Egg Plant and AMF in Jefferson. In her spare time she enjoyed baking, canning, entertaining, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are son Larry Brock of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter Julia Brock of Churdan, Iowa; two stepsons: Darwin Brock of Contour, North Carolina and Gaylord Brock of Crocket, California; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a sister Jeanie Heuton and her husband Wendall of Carroll, Iowa; three brothers: Ray Toms of Scranton, Jim Toms and his wife Vickie of Lake View, Iowa, and John Toms and his wife Sandy of Glidden; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Loyal in 1979, a brother Dewey, and seven sisters: Eva, Nina, Pearl, Ruby, Ruth, Clara, and Dorothy.
