Mildred Walker

September 28, 1928 — March 5, 2018

     Mildred Walker, age 89, of Carroll, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Accura Healthcare of Carroll.       Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Organist for the service will be Nancy Davis.  Casket bearers will be grandchildren: Chris Obrecht, Tony Obrecht, Kyle Obrecht, Tom Irlbeck Jr., Rose Irlbeck, Caleb Walker, Dillon Walker, Madeline Walker, and Rick Lawler,   Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.      Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.  The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service.      Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Mildred’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com.      Born on September 28, 1928 in Clymer, PA, Mildred was the daughter of Waldo and Mary (Stephens) Brown.  Mildred’s mother died when she was one year old and she was raised by her grandmother.  She grew up in Penn Run, PA, and graduated from Indiana High School in Indiana, PA, in 1946.  Following high school she worked at Murphy’s 5 and 10 in Indiana, PA and later went to work for King Leather also in Indiana.  She moved to New Jersey in 1948 and went to work for Owens Illinois Glass making bottles.  She met Kenneth Walker, who was serving in the US Navy, on a blind date.  Mildred and Kenneth were married on March 18, 1952 at the Presbyterian Church in Clymer, PA.   The couple moved to Ponca, Nebraska where Mildred worked for Aalf Bakery in Sioux City.  Ken and Mildred moved to Schleswig in 1963 and to Carroll in 1974.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carroll.  Mildred sold Avon products for over 50 years.  She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, camping, and spending time with her family.      Mildred is survived by two daughters: Sandra Obrecht of Carroll and Janice Irlbeck and her husband Tom of Mt. Carmel; a son Carl Walker and his wife Celia Chen of Taipei, Taiwan; eight grandchildren: Chris Obrecht and his wife Michelle of Illinois, Robin Lawler and her husband Rick of Arcadia; Tony Obrecht and his wife Trisha of Arcadia, Kyle Obrecht and his wife Ashlie of North Liberty, Tom Irlbeck Jr. and his wife Brianne of Kansas City, MO, Rose Irlbeck of Iowa City, Caleb Walker and his fiancé Molly Adolph of Reno, NV, Dillon Walker and his wife Kaitlyn of Mason City, and Madeline Walker of Cedar Falls; 13 great grandchildren: Bryce, Julie, Jenna, Blake, Kora, Wade, Mara, Brody, Caden, Hayden, Jase, Harper, and James; and several nieces and nephews.      Mildred was preceded in death by her parents Waldo and Mary Brown; a sister Ivagene Harkleroad and her husband Robert Sr.; a brother in infancy; a nephew Donald Trout; a son-in-law Keith Obrecht, a grandson Ben Obrecht, and her husband Kenneth “Doc” Walker on July 18, 2017.
