Mildred Mabel Stuhr, age 89, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Vic Johnson officiating. Organist for the service will be Jan Potthoff. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. Wednesday to lie in state until the time of service. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Casket bearers will be Grandsons: Kody Moffatt, John Turner, David Stuhr, David Peters, Scott Stuhr, Mike Genter, Eric Peters, Doug Stuhr, and Nathan Stuhr.
Born on April 6, 1920 at rural Glidden, Iowa, she was the daughter of Henry and Mabel (Warning) Prill. Mildred was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She grew up near Glidden and graduated from Glidden High School in 1941. She then attended teachers college at Cedar Falls and Storm Lake and earned her teaching certificate. She taught school for a short time and then was married to Amos Stuhr on December 12, 1941 at Omaha, Nebraska. The couple farmed in the Glidden area for many years. Mildred had seven children in seven and a half years. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo, sewing, going to coffee in the morning, quilting with the Glidden Quilters, spending time with her friends, children, and grandchildren.
Surviving are a four daughters: Judy Moffatt and her husband Rich of Omaha, Nebraska, Joy Savoie of Glidden, Jane Ankrum and her husband Wil of Washta, Iowa, Janice Peters and her husband Jim of Greenfield, Indiana; two sons: Dean Stuhr and his wife Shari of Des Moines, Iowa, and David Stuhr and his wife Theresa of Glidden; a special daughter Chris Stuhr of Glidden; 25 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Marion Lowell and her husband Jerry of La Quinta, California, and Marlene Van Horne and her husband Richard of Houston, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by parents, her husband Amos in 1998, a son Donald in 2007, and a grandson Jeffrey Turner in 2009, four sisters: Margie Heuton, Martena Smith, and Mae and Melinda in childhood.
