Mildred Arlene MacDonald, age 96, of Scranton, Iowa, passed away at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa on Friday, October 2, 2009.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Scranton with Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Organist for the service will be Karen Murphy and the congregation will sing. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton. Casket bearers will be Paul MacDonald, Jason MacDonald, Adam MacDonald, Stacy MacDonald, Craig MacDonald, Doug Duff, and Charles Duff. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.
Born on November 28, 1912 at Scranton, Iowa, she was the daughter of Alexander E. and Anna (Anderson) Duff. She grew up in Scranton and graduated from Scranton High School in 1930. She was married to Maxwell D. Mac Donald on July 7, 1930 at her family’s farm near Scranton. The couple moved to Moline, Illinois from 1935 until 1943 where Mildred worked as a buyer for several department stores. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scranton, and she was very active in several farm community organizations. She enjoyed many types of handy work, ceramics, entertaining, and supporting the Republican Party.
Surviving are a son Gerald MacDonald and his wife Patricia of York, Nebraska; a daughter-in-law Eleanor MacDonald of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and twelve great great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, a son Wayne MacDonald, a granddaughter Lee Ann Regier, a great grandson Kevin Bayer, a great great grandson Sean MacDonald, and a sister Grace Jeffries.
