Mildred Mae Legore, age 96, of Scranton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care.
Born on March 18, 1913 near Lanesboro, Iowa, she was the daughter of Kyle and Maude (Kinnan) Stapleton. She grew up the Greene County area and attended school in Scranton. She was married to Einar Legore on May 12, 1929 at Churdan, Iowa. Mildred and Einar owned and operated Legore Super Service gas station and garage in Scranton until his death in 1973. She moved to LaPlatte, Nebraska, where she worked as a school custodian. After her retirement she then moved back to Scranton and was married to Harold Legore, Einar’s cousin, on October 27, 1979 at Scranton. Mildred was affiliated with the Church of Christ in Scranton. She enjoyed crocheting, her pets, traveling, spending time outdoors, flowers, and visiting friends and family.
Surviving are a son Larry Legore and his wife Susan of Algona, Iowa; a daughter-in-law Muriel Legore of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister Verda Liddick of LaPlatte, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Cheri Wilmoski of Overland Park, Kansas, Tim Legore and his wife Diane of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, David Legore and his wife Kirsten of Seguin, Texas, and Diane Loewe and her husband J.T. of Suamico, Wisconsin; ten great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a step-son Darrell Legore and his wife Joanne of Churdan, Iowa, and their family; a step-daughter Lois Curtis of Ames, Iowa, and her family; a step-daughter Donna Hyland and her husband Phil of St. George, Utah and their family, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Einar, her husband Harold, a son Richard, a brother Paul Stapleton, and a sister Leota Porter.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of Christ in Scranton with Pastor Bob McKnight officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday beginning at 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Laura McKnight and David Legore and Diane Loewe will sing. Casket bearers will be Mildred’s grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.
