Mildred Irene Golay, 86, of Coon Rapids, Iowa passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, March 5, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Music for the service will be by Lula Garnes as organist and Cindy Seastrom as Soloist. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren: Matt Fortner, Andy Skiles, Trey Dickinson, Nathan Balukoff, Cole Golay, Sam Balukoff, and Trenton Golay. Burial will be in the Orange Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on May 9, 1930 at her family home, Mildred (Millie) Golay was the daughter of Earney Long and Florence (Shoesmith) Long. She graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1947 and spent some time working at Bankers Life in Des Moines after high school. She was united in marriage to William Child at Wichita Falls, Texas May 27, 1951. They made their home at Davis-Monthan Air Force base in Tucson, Arizona where their two daughters were born. After losing her husband to an in-air explosion while serving in the USAF, she brought her daughters back home to raise in Coon Rapids. She was then united in marriage to Charles Golay on September 16, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. Two more children were born to this union. Millie devoted herself to homemaking and motherhood. After her children were older, she worked with her husband at the Farm Center & Golay Farms as Vice President and bookkeeper. She enjoyed playing cards, watching basketball and football games, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, and going to the casinos with her husband. She also enjoyed having coffee with neighbors and friends and playing Tuesday night Bingo. She was loved and cherished by her children, grandchildren and great grand children. Millie was a member of the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church and the UMW at the church. Surviving are her children Pam Dickinson of Glidden, Penny Skiles of Waterloo, Brad (Linda) Golay of Coon Rapids, and Natalie (Marty) Balukoff of Ankeny; twelve grandchildren, Matthew Fortner, Ashley Dickinson, Trey Dickinson, Amber (Brad) Johnson, Angel Colvin, Andy (Tiffanie) Skiles, Amanda (Mike) Wolf, Cole Golay, Trenton Golay, Nathan Balukoff, Hannah Balukoff, and Sam Balukoff; 14 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; sisters in law Kay (Jerry) Yeager; Marilyn Carpenter, and Jim (Carmen) Golay, and several cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her parents, both husbands, her only sister Pauline Gouge, her brothers Donald Long and wife Betty, Robert Long and wife Sue, Jerry Long, and Richard Long.
