Michael D. Garrett, age 67, of Carroll passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa.
Funeral service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Fr. Glen Rankin of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until the time of service on Thursday. Burial will be in St. Josephs Cemetery in Dedham at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 18, 2013.
Mike was born on July 30, 1947 at Creston, Iowa. He lived at the Woodward State Hospital School until he was thirty years old. In 1977 he moved to New Hope Village in Carroll. He lived in the Daisy Lane Cottage until he moved to a group home in 1992. He had several jobs while living at New Hope. Most recently he helped at American Home Shield. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Carroll. He moved to the Exira Care Center in February of 2013. Mike enjoyed watching cartoons, traveling, swimming, dancing, spending time with his friends at New Hope, being with his guardians Alfred and LaVonne Peter, going to visit friends in the community and dressing up for Halloween especially as Bat Man. Mike had a warm and loving heart and he touched the lives of many.
Mike is survived by his New Hope family, the nurses and staff at the Exira Care Center, and countless caregivers who loved and nurtured him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his guardians Alfred and LaVonne Peter of Dedham.
