Mickey Bierl

Mickey Bierl, age 76, of Carroll passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at her home in Carroll surrounded by her family. Born Loretta Marie Spieker on February 27, 1939 in Carroll, she was the daughter of Leo and Eileen (Conroy) Spieker. Mickey as she was known to most, lived her entire life in Carroll and attended St. Angela’s Academy and graduated from Kuemper High School. She then attended St. Angela’s School of Nursing and graduated with an RN degree. She worked in the surgery department at St. Anthony Regional Hospital for many years and became director of Carroll County Home Health in the early 80’s. In September of 1993 she founded Carroll Area Nursing Service providing home health care to patients in Carroll and six surrounding counties. Mickey operated CANS until the time of her death with her daughter Kim who continues to run the business. She was married to Dennis Bierl on July 1, 1961 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. Mickey was a member of St. Lawrence Parish. She enjoyed going to the casinos with her family and friends. Mickey was a caregiver at heart and had a passion for caring for people and animals. She was an avid supporter of the Carroll Animal Rescue League. Mickey is survived by her husband Dennis Bierl of Carroll; two daughters: Kim Lambert and her husband Dennis of Carroll and Jodi Kanne and her husband Scott of Carroll; two sons: Kirk and James Bierl both of Kimballton; nine grandchildren: Alex Brain and his wife Tami of LeMars, Alyce and Andrea Brain of Carroll, Ross and Grant Horbach of Cedar Falls, Blake and Brooke Horbach of Carroll, and Tanner and Tayler O’Hara of Des Moines; one great granddaughter Adeline Brain of Carroll; a brother LeRoy Spieker of Elephant Butte, NM; two sisters-in-law: Lois Bierl of Carroll and Doris Meyer of Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. Mickey was preceded in death by her parents, a brother James Spieker, and her daughter Amy O’Hara. In accordance with Mickey’s wishes private family services will be held. The family suggests memorials be made to the Carroll Animal Rescue League in memory of Mickey Bierl and may be sent to: Carroll Animal Rescue League Box 393 Carroll, Iowa 51401.
