Michael Hartl, age 78, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 30, 2021.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, November 5, 2021 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with Fr. Kevin Richter officiating. Casket bearers will be Dave Halbur, David Davis, Jeremy Davis, Bob Warnke, Dan Swalla and Terry Kopaska. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Dedham.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 - 7 P.M. on Thursday. Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 - 10:15 A.M. on Friday prior to the service.

Michael was the son of Otto and Anna (Thalhammer) Hartl and he was born on February 9, 1943, in Templeton, Iowa. He grew up near Grey, Iowa and later moved to Dedham, Iowa. Mike attended St. Joseph's school in Dedham. Mike worked at the Templeton Locker in Templeton, Iowa and then later worked at the Coon Rapids Locker as a meat cutter. Later he took a position with Garst & Thomas Seed Corn Company. He also worked at the Coon Rapids Lumber Yard and later became the owner of the Northside Recreation Parlor. Mike was a member of the Coon Rapids Fire Department and Jaycees.
Mike enjoyed playing cards, causing trouble, going to the casino and socializing at the bar. In his early years Mike enjoyed making concrete ornaments and wood working. Mike had many health issues in the past few years, but recently you could see him tooling around town on his motorized scooter.
Mike is survived by his children: Sheryl Swalla (Dan) of Coon Rapids; Lisa Kopaska (Terry) of Guthrie Center; Jeff Hartl of Coon Rapids and Chris Hartl (Jessica) of Coon Rapids. Grandchildren: Alex Nixon of Carroll; Hallie Tendall (Michael), Blue Springs, MO; Chelsie Kopaska (Dustin), Guthrie Center; Courtney Hodges (Nate), Panora; Jentry Hise (Loyd) of Adair; Melanie Brashears (Jared) of Storm Lake, Iowa; Jace Hartl of Lincoln, NE; Lydia Hofbauer and Aubrey Hofbauer of Coon Rapids; Kylee Hartl (Syrus), Coon Rapids, IA; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Otto Hartl (Ursula) Hollister, MO and Robert Hartl (Janine) of Audubon, three sisters: Rose Becker (Roger) Willey, IA; Helen Yager, Coon Rapids; Ann Olesen (Randy) of Bayard; and a sister-in-law Mary Lou Hartl, of Carroll, IA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents; brother Joe Hartl; sister, Mary Ann Miskimins and brother-in-law Dwaine Miskimins; brother-in-law Charles Yager and great-grandson Loyd Hise IV.
