Melva was born on May 29, 1940, in Washta, Iowa, the daughter of Leroy and Ona (Godwin) Harrison. Melva graduated from Quimby High School and shortly after, on August 14, 1958, she was united in marriage to Virgil Dickman at the Lutheran Church in Quimby. The couple made their home in several communities before settling in Coon Rapids in 1975, where they raised their family together.
Melva found joy in the simple and meaningful moments of life. She loved playing cards and games with her friends and family, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and going on Sunday drives. She enjoyed music and played the organ for the Lutheran church in Quimby when she was in high school. She carried this love of organ playing into her family life as well. She enjoyed dancing with her husband, and they were very good at it! Melva liked to spend time crafting and attending craft fairs with her sister. Melva also loved traveling with her husband and family. In her retired years, Melva could often be found helping at the Bargain Shoppe, where she enjoyed organizing inventory and sharing cookies and laughter with friends or spending time with her friends from church attending little sales and having Sunday brunch.
She is survived by her children: Peggy Bagwell of Lamar, Colorado; Stanley Dickman of Stockton, Georgia; Gary Dickman (Tammy) of Indianola; and Sharlene Gingery of Carroll; daughter-in-law Lisa Dickman of Coon Rapids; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She is also survived by her sister, Lorraine Adams of Le Mars; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Harrison of Correctionville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ona and Leroy Harrison; her husband, Virgil Dickman; her son, Kendall Dickman; her brothers Leon (Cheryl) Harrison and Lorn Harrison, her sister Francis (Earl) Schwaller; her grandsons, Justin and Jonathan Dickman; and her great-granddaughter, Bailey Werle.
Melva will be remembered for her love for her family, her silly antics and the fun she brought to a room, and the joy she found in time spent with those she loved.
