Matthew R. Kernen, age 47, of Glidden passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Pastor Chaun Bergmeier of Pleasant Ridge Evangelical Free Church officiating. Music for the service will be by Matt’s family. Casket bearers will be John Meshek, Justin Robbins, Aaron Robbins, Alan Thompson, Mac Schilling, and Rick Schilling. Burial will be in the Dillavou Cemetery near Ralston. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will resume at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. on Friday until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for Matt’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Matthew was born on January 7, 1970 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Randolph L. and Sherry (Robbins) Kernen. Matthew graduated from Glidden-Ralston High School in 1988, and then attended Northwestern College in Orange City. He then received an Associates of Arts degree in Business from DMACC in Carroll. After working several years at Pella Corporation, he opened “Sports Heros” a sports memorabilia store in Carroll. The past several years, he has worked at Wal-Mart in Carroll until his health declined. Matthew was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs football team and Chicago Cubs baseball team. He was known for his silly jokes. He enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia, attending auctions, and taking his nieces and nephews on fun day trips. Matthew is survived by his parents Randy and Sherry Kernen of rural Glidden; brother Daniel Kernen of rural Glidden; his sister Rachel Meshek (John) of Coon Rapids; his nieces and nephews: Rebekah, Hannah, and Jacob Meshek and Zachariah Kernen; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: F. Randolph and Helen Kernen and Kenneth and Dorothy Robbins.
