Mary West

Mary Rose (Schultz) West was born on May 18, 1918in Bradgate, Iowa and died on January 10, 2014 in Carroll, Iowa. The daughter of Ellen and John Schultz, Mary was one of 13 children. She graduated from Humboldt High School in in 1938 and began working in a local law office. On June 13, 1929 she married Joseph Clair West in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Mr. West died on February 2, 1997. She is survived by her four children: Rosemary West Townsend of Waco, Texas; Peter Joseph West and his wife Judy of Bristol, Wisconsin; Julie Ann West of Urbandale, Iowa; and Rebecca West Whitver and her husband John of Ralston, Iowa and 12 grandchildren: Tami Townsend Keeling of Victoria, Texas; William Barton Townsend, III of Round Rock, Texas; Eric Alan Templeton of Chicago, Illinois; Kirsten Templeton McGuire of Kansas City, Missouri; Megan Templeton Claypool of Des Monies, Iowa; Megan Reed Johnson of Costa Mesa, California; James Dillingham Reed of San Francisco, California; David Dillingham Reed of st. Charles, Illinois; Christopher Joseph West of San Diego, California; Valari Whitver Heithoff of Carroll, Iowa; Kristina Whitver Soyer of Glidden, Iowa; and John Ralph Whitver of Glidden, Iowa as well as 24 great grandchildren. An outstanding and loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Mary West was involved in the operation of motels, hotels, and resorts, insurance agencies, and farm properties in partnership with her husband. The family has planned a private family memorial service to be held the spring. Memorials have been designated for the Trumpeter Swan Reserve at Swan Lake.
