Mary Mullican, age 82 died Sunday at the Carroll Health Center. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Following a luncheon, interment will take place in Union Cemetery at Guthrie Center. The Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll is in charge of arrangements where friends may call after 5 PM on Wednesday. Mary's family will receive friends from 6-8 PM. Mary Louise Mullican, 82, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at the Carroll Health Center. She was born on the family farm in Guthrie County, Iowa, on October 10, 1925. She was the daughter of John and Luella Rawlings Benton. She graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1943 with a Normal Training Certificate. Mary taught country school at Bear Grove #5 and North Branch in Guthrie County. On August 8, 1945, she was united in marriage to Carl Mullican in Gray, IA. The Mullicans lived in Guthrie Center from 1945 to 1972, Newton from 1972 to 1991, and moved to Carroll in 1991. Mary was a homemaker with a great talent for sewing. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll and active in United Methodist Women . She enjoyed volunteering for the St. Anthony Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Surviving are her son, Larry and wife, Megan, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; her daughter, Susan Becker and husband, Larry, of Carroll; four grandchildren Lauren Emmer and husband, Ed, of Irmo, South Carolina, Bryce Mullican and wife, Rebecca, of Jackson, Mississippi, Sara Becker of West Des Moines, and Paul Becker of Lincoln, Nebraska; two greatgrandsons Edwin Carl and Ian Thomas Emmer; one brother Veryl Benton and wife, Arlene, of Guthrie Center; sisters-in-law, Delia Benton of Guthrie Center and Rachel Benton of Osh Kosh, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl, brothers, Donald, Robert, and Kenneth, and a sister, Berniece Heckman.
