Mary A. Kanne

Mary A. (Tyrrell) Kanne passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll . The oldest daughter of Frank and Dora (Scharfencamp) Tyrrell, she was born June 10, 1917 in Carroll, Iowa. Mary was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Grade School, and St. Angela’s Academy of Carroll in 1934. She resided in Carroll all of her life with the exception of five years spent in Chicago, Illinois from 1941-1946, at which time she was employed by the General Accounting Office and US Office of Censorship. Upon returning to Carroll, she worked for the US Department of Agriculture in the Carroll County office, retiring in April of 1979. Mary and Julius Kanne were married May 4, 1944, at St. John’s Catholic Church on the campus of Creighton University in Omaha, NE by Rev. Charles Kanne, S.J., and made their home in Carroll. Mary was a member of St. Lawrence Church Ladies Guild and the Court of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Daughters for 74 years, and the Carroll American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her children Susan and (Thomas) Rublein of Minneapolis, MN and Stephen and (Joan) Kanne of Carroll. Grandchildren: Aaron Rublein, Amanda Rublein and Abby Rublein all of Minneapolis. She is survived by Brothers and Sisters: James and (Irene) Tyrrell of Pontiac, MI; Margaret Cooper of Mt. Grove, MO; Dorothy Myers, Tucson, AZ; Will and (Betty) Tyrrell, Douglasville, GA; Tony and (Carol) Tyrrell, Altaville, CA; Rita Dinges, Council Bluffs, IA, Joe Tyrrell and (Gale) of Vacaville, CA and Marilyn and (Dan) Heeter, Anchorage, AK. Sister in law, Zoe Tyrrell, Stockton, CA.; an Aunt: Louise Friedman, Raleigh, NC, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her husband, Julius I. Kanne on February 26, 1978; parents Frank and Dora Tyrrell; brothers: Edward W. and wife Madeline Tyrrell, Francis Tyrrell and Brothers-in-law, John Cooper, James L. Myers and Ramon Dinges. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Rev. Timothy Schott as Celebrant. Gift bearers will be Renee Dinges, Toni, Kayla, and Elizabeth Delanty. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a Rosary by the Catholic Daughters at 3:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service by the parish at 7:30 P.M.. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for St. Anthony Hospice and may be left at the funeral home or the church. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Casket bearers will be: Don and Jerry Tigges, Steve Scharfencamp, Todd Dinges, and Mike and Bill Tyrrell. Honorary casket bearers will be: Delphine Hulsing, Grace and Homer Langenfeld; Inez and Daryl Winker, Betty Bluml, Evelyn Willie, Midge Hulsing, Corrine Gute, Dorothy Walz and Thelma Walz.
