Mary Jo Halterman, age 54, of Bayard passed away on Monday, December 14, 2009 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll after a long battle with Muscular Dystrophy.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 18, 2009 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Scranton with Fr. Steven McLoud as Celebrant. Lector will be Ann McAlister. Organist for the Mass will be Richard Carey and soloist will be Rosemary Paulsen. Gift bearers will be Mary Jo's sisters: Terri, Kathy, Trish, and Jan. Eucharistic minister will be Jan Morlan. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 2 – 5 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 4:00 P.M. Casket bearers will be Kevin Berger, Lou Peterson, Tony Park, Nat Halterman, Trask Anderson, and Chase Dickman. Honorary casket bearers will be John Park, Andy Park, Dylan Dickman and Kaden Halterman. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery near Lidderdale.
Born on February 5, 1955 at Carroll, Iowa, she was the daughter of Robert and Carol (West) Park. She grew up in Scranton and graduated from Scranton High School in 1973. She then attended Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge. She was married to Darwin Halterman on February 19, 1975 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Scranton. The couple lived in Bayard where she did in home daycare for many years. The couple divorced in 2001. She was later employed by Precision Marketing in Coon Rapids. Mary Jo has lived at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids for the past two years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Chruch in Scranton. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards, bowling, dancing, reading, watching sports on t.v., and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her son Nicholas Halterman and his wife Tonya of Bayard; her mother Carol Park of Scranton; seven grandchildren: Trask Anderson, Chase Dickman, Dylan Dickman, Nikki Jo Halterman, Hanna Halterman, Rylee Halterman, and Kaden Halterman all of Bayard; two brothers: Andy Park and Jon Park of Barnum; four sisters: Terri Renwanz and her husband Bill of Jefferson, Kathy Geuss and her husband Eric of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, Trish Monthei of Yale, Iowa, Jan Kirschman and her husband Rick of Ankeny, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, her grandparents, two brothers Steven and Mike Park, and a sister Julie Park.
