Mary Gute, age 95, of Carroll passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Hill Top Care Center in Spirit Lake. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson of Holy Spirit Parish officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 A.M. on Saturday until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Ellen Severin and soloist will be Mr. John Wagner. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Casket bearers will be Brian Gute, Leo Schultes, Craig Wenck, Doug Gute, Dean Gute, and Kevin Gute. Born on April 25, 1917 in Dedham, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Mary (Straubeinger) Weitl. Mary was raised in the Dedham – Carroll area. She was married to Frank Gute on November 8, 1932 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll by Fr. Schenkelberg. The couple lived on a farm west of Willey until 1952 when they moved to Carroll. Mary worked at Ocoma Foods for several years and then St. Anthony Regional Hospital until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. Mary enjoyed listening and dancing to polka, reading books, and making quilts. Mary is survived by two daughters: Cecilia Kettner and her husband Robert of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Jane Wenck and her husband John of Carroll; three sons: Duane Gute of Quartz City, California, Jerry Gute and his wife Corrine of Burnett, Texas, and Frank Gute and his wife Vi of Panora, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank in 1970, two sons Delbert and Alan Gute, a grandson Kevin Gute, a granddaughter Linda Zavala, a great granddaughter Lauren Schmidt, a sister Emma Harms, and thee brothers: Joseph, John, and Fred Weitl.
