Mary Angel Fortney, age 84, of Carroll, Iowa and formerly of Tucson, Arizona died unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, October 9, 2008. Mary was a self employed seamstress for many years before retirement. She was born on April 21, 1924 at Taunton, Massachusetts, and was the daughter of Manuel and Maria (Mello) Correia. She was married to Ercell Fortney on March 26, 1945 in Quebec, Canada. As a young girl she attended schools in Fall River, Massachusetts. Mary had lived many years in Arizona. While living there she was a member of the Assembly of God Church and served as head of the Greeters and was in charge of the Food Court of the Church for several years. In her spare time she enjoyed playing scrabble, doing cross word puzzles, sewing, watching HG TV and was an outstanding interior decorator. Surviving are the following children: Sandra Frank of Boone, Iowa, Judy Winkelman and her husband John of Auburn, Iowa, Donna Woodard and her husband Keith of Des Moines, Iowa, Ercell Fortney and his wife Patty of Hartford, South Dakota, Robert Fortney and his wife Eva of Duncan, Oklahoma, John Fortney and his wife Libby of Las Vegas, Nevada and Laurie Wilby and her husband Kevin of La Crescenta, California. Also surviving are a sister Evelyn Wyman and husband Joe of Fall River, Mass; a sister-in-law Elsie Correia of Bristol, R.I.; 36 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. There are also two special friends of Mary and the family: Jim Ueltschy of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and Barb Williamson of California, and many special friends in Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1959 and two sisters Phyllis and Alice and three brothers: John, Linden and Manuel.
