Mary B. Fleshner, age 89, of Glidden passed away on Tuesday, August 03, 2010 at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 6, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor David Bergstrom officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Jan Potthoff and the congregation will sing “How Great Thou Art”, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, and “In The Garden”. Casket bearers will be Jerry Fleshner, Chris Fleshner, Tom Coyle, Steve Henningsen, Tim Smith, and Louis Grade. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Born on November 5, 1920 at Dawson Township, Greene County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Frank and Minnie (Nahnsen) Godwin. She grew up in the Paton – Churdan area and graduated from Paton High School in 1939. She was baptized and confirmed as an adult on December 22, 1940 at Christ Lutheran Church in Churdan. She was married to Alva Fleshner on October 26, 1941 at Christ Lutheran Church in Churdan by Pastor A.C. Goltberg. The couple farmed north east of Lidderdale on the Fleshner family farm where they raised their two children. They retired in 1976 and moved to Glidden where Mary worked for Boomsma’s Egg Processing Plant for 19 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she belonged to several church circles. She was also a member of the Birthday Club and the Senior Citizens Group. Mary enjoyed her family, friends, and neighbors who were her life. Surviving are a daughter Nadine Henningsen and her husband Dale of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; a son Lyle Fleshner and his wife Pat of Denison; four grandchildren: Leslie Garman and her husband Brian of Urbandale, Tracey Morley and her husband Bruce of Sunnyvale, California, Steve Henningsen and his wife Amy of Sioux City, and Tom Coyle of Chicago; five great grandchildren: Josiah, Vanessa, Adam, Matthew, and Zachary; and two step-great grandchildren: Michelle and Trace; two brothers-in-law Harvey Fleshner and his wife Jean of Carroll, and Leonard Fleshner and his wife Gudrun of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1996, and six brothers: Walter, Carson, Marion, Clarence, Lawrence and Edward.
