Mary Fiscus, age 83, of Bayard, died Wednesday November 6, 2013, at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, November 11, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with Reverend Lynn Gunderson, officiating. The organist will be Lula Garnes the vocalist will be Shirley Hachmeister. Casket Bearers will be Bruce Greer, Justin Yager, Doug Wurr, Paul Clark, Ryan Willison and Mike Davis. Honorary Casketbearers are Randy Willison, Jim Clark, Joe Clark and John Davis. Interment will be in Orange Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids. Visitation is Sunday, November 10, 2013, from 4 pm to 7pm at the Johnson & Woodhouse Funeral Home.
Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Fred and Marie (Strandburg) Cretsinger, was born June 28, 1930, on the family farm south of Coon Rapids, Iowa. She attended country school near her home and beginning in the eighth grade, she went to school in Coon Rapids, graduating in 1948.
On June 16, 1948, Mary was united in marriage with Harold Fiscus at the Methodist church in Guthrie Center. Mary and Harold made their home south of Panora, a short time with her folks on the farm and one year in Coon Rapids before settling in Bayard where they lived from 1950 to 1969. They then lived in Carroll until 1983 when they moved to an acreage near Scranton. In 1992, Mary and Harold returned to Bayard.
Mary had experienced declining health and fell in late September of 2013. On Wednesday, November 6, 2013, she died at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids. She was 83 years of age.
Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church. She and Harold enjoyed traveling, camping, going to gun shows and craft shows. Mary was an excellent cook and baker. She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband Harold Fiscus of Bayard; a daughter Linda Hachmeister and husband Mark of Coon Rapids; a son Craig Fiscus of Bayard; two grandchildren: Justin Yager and wife Danielle of Carnarvon & Amy Greer and husband Bruce of Jefferson; two great-grandchildren Kyliana and Cobain Greer; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Dorothy Loeffler; two brothers Warren and Don Cretsinger; and a sister-in-law Alberta Grubbs.
