Mary E. Dobson, age 81, of Scranton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Greene County Extended Care in Jefferson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the Scranton United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:30 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Burial will be in the Dillavou Cemetery near Scranton. Casket bearers will be grandsons: Joshua Dobson, Keegan Dobson, Trevor Dobson, Dylan Peters, Alex Dobson, and Colton Morlan. Honorary casket bearers will be granddaughters: Kyla Peters, Abbey Dobson, Sarah Peters, and Kelsey Peters. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton. Born on September 20, 1929 at Greene County, Iowa, on her family’s farm in Kendrick Township and was the daughter of Claude and Ruby (Borders) Silbaugh. She attended Kendrick Township Country School and graduated from Scranton High School in 1947 as valedictorian of her class. She was married to Vern Dobson on September 21, 1957 at Maple Grove Church where they met. Mary and Vern raised their family on their farm near Scranton. She was a member of the Scranton United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Ralston Club and the U Go I Go Club. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, going to her children and grandchildren’s ball games, clipping recipes, and spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving are three daughters: Joyce Peters and her husband Steve of Humboldt, Iowa, LuAnn Dobson of Scranton, Rhonda Morlan and her husband Jon of Jefferson, Iowa; two sons: Robert Dobson of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and Wayne Dobson and his wife Brenda of Manson, Iowa; 10 grandchildren: Alex and Abbey Dobson; Kyla, Dylan, Sarah, and Kelsey Peters; Joshua, Keegan, and Trevor Dobson; and Colton Morlan; a brother-in-law Earl Dobson of Oregon; and a sister-in-law Doris Burdine of Glidden; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vern in 1999, and her two sisters: Leona and Luetta Silbaugh.
