Mary J. Brown, age 71, of Carroll passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at her home in Carroll surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Pastor Dennis Bailey of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Music will be by Susan Moore of St. Anthony Hospice. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Mary’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com. Born on June 15, 1945 in Lake City, she was the daughter of Carroll and Beulah (Howrey) Morris. Mary grew up Lake City, Glidden, and Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1963. She worked at St. Anthony nursing home several years. She was married to Kenneth Brown on July 20, 1963 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll by the Rev. Dr. Paul Dietterich. The couple made their home in Carroll where they raised their two sons David and Billy. They also lived in the Lake View – Wall Lake area for a few years as well. Mary worked at Twilight Acres, the Carroll Health Center, K-Mart, and Farner Bocken during her working years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Alcoholics Anonymous. Mary enjoyed collecting teddy bears and porcelain dolls, and she loved going on walks with her faithful dog Lucy. Mary is survived by her two sons: David and Billy Brown of Carroll; a sister Patricia Smykowski and her husband Ted of Hot Springs, AK; a brother Marvin (Marty) Morris; a brother-in-law Keith Brown and his wife Cindy of Florida; eight nephews and a niece; and her AA Family. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth in 1989, a sister Sharon Nieland, and three children in infancy: Wade in 1963, JoAnn in 1964, and Scotty in 1966.
