Marvin Dale Johnson

Marvin Dale Johnson, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.

A private family graveside service will be held in October with military honors conducted by the Coon Rapids American Legion.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

Marvin was born on August 25, 1933 in Coon Rapids, IA, and he was the son of Henry Mason and Ida Lorene (Bean) Johnson.  He grew up in Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High School.  He worked with his father and brothers at Johnson Construction.  He was married to Clara Belle Johnson on June 3, 1956.  Marvin enlisted in the United States Army in October of 1956 and served two years.  Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Coon Rapids and worked with his family’s construction business and later for Garst and Thomas.  Marvin served on the Coon Rapids Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years.  He also served as Mayor of Coon Rapids from 2000 – 2004.  He was a member of the Coon Rapids United Methodis   t Church for many years.  Marvin was an accomplished woodworker and locksmith.

Marvin is survived by his two daughters and their families: Cindy Troedel, husband Michael of Troy, Missouri and daughter Dawnella Baker, husband Roger of Coon Rapids.  Also surviving are grandsons: Travis Schulze, wife Heather, Ryan Schulze, wife Rebecca; great-grand children: Noah, Natalie, Kate, and Memphis; a sister Donna Buswell of Scranton; two-sisters-in-law: Beverly Lorenzen, husband Mike of Dallas Center and Kathryn Hunter, husband Richard of Scranton, a brother-in-law Denny Wailes, wife Lehanne of Scranton, and many nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by wife Clara in 2022; his parents; his eleven siblings; and a great-grandson Gabriel Ethan Schulze.
